How do I get to Lake Powell?
Most of our local residents travel to Lake Powell by personal vehicles.
For international employees working at Wahweap or Dangling Rope, the most convenient route
is to fly into Phoenix, AZ. From here, you can fly directly into Page, AZ via
Great Lakes Airlines. (www.greatlakesav.com)
For employees working at Bullfrog, Halls Crossing or Hite, you will need to arrange transportation
into Green River, Utah. Transportation from Green River will be provided to the appropriate marina upon
an agreement with those marinas. Please contact an HR representative from the appropriate marina
to make arrangements.
Upon arrival at Lake Powell, please tell the National Park Service gate attendant that you are a new
employee reporting for orientation. If a job offer letter was sent to you, be sure to have it handy as proof
of employment. You will get a temporary badge to use until you complete orientation, at which time
you will receive your permanent ID badge.
What Should I Bring?
First and foremost, bring comfortable and cool clothes. You will be living and working in a hot and arid
region - please pack to accommodate these conditions. It is advisable to bring a few sweaters and pants
for chilly nights as well.
Most Marinas require you to bring your own bedding and towels for your rooms.
Employees living in mobile homes and shared apartments need to furnish all cooking and other accessories.
Employees at Halls Crossing, Dangling Rope, and Hite marinas are advised to bring a beginning supply
of groceries and enough cash for at least a month due to the remoteness of the marinas.
You are encouraged to bring any personal items such as music, books, and special foods.
Wahweap and Bullfrog Marinas advise that you bring your laptop computer, as access to wireless
internet is available at the rec center.
Where are the closest grocery and shopping areas?
With the exception of the Wahweap Marina, all grocery and shopping resources are two or three hours
away from each marina. Small marina stores with limited supplies are available at each location.
Most of these marinas schedule trips to nearby towns for shopping needs. Wahweap is a 6 mile drive
from grocery stores and Wal-Mart. Flagstaff, AZ is the next closest town with a large base of resources.
What is there to do when I am not working?
The better question is what can't I do? Obviously, this isn't New York City and entertainment in
Page, AZ isn't rock concerts, dance clubs, shopping sprees, and amusement parks and other "big city"
entertainment options. You are here to create experiences in one of the world's most aesthetic and unique
landscapes. So take your pick: wakeboard, water-ski, hike, camp, sight see, mountain bike, photography,
lazy days on the beach, rent a powerboat, go to other National Parks, and much, much more!
Each marina also offers a recreational program with company events, picnics, and other activities to bring
together the assorted members of its staff.
Is it possible to get a second job?
These opportunities are determined by location and on an as needed basis. Each marina will consider
second jobs for employees based upon the business need and may only be done with both managers approval.
Employees of Wahweap Marina may attempt to find a secondary job in Page. These employees should be
aware however, that Page has a small business base and resources. While some individuals may find a second
job, there are not enough positions to accommodate all individuals seeking secondary employment.
How can I cash my paychecks?
Most marinas cash paychecks due to their remote locations. Wahweap is the exception, having 2 banks,
(Bank of the West and Arizona National, Wells Fargo also has an ATM deposit machine in Bashas' grocery store)
as well as numerous check cashing services in town.
Are there cooking facilities where I can cook my own food?
The Wahweap recreation hall does have a small kitchen available for employees. Please check with your
hiring marina for availability on such facilities. It is important to be aware that the dorms are not equipped with refrigerators.
Purchasing of small refrigerators is advised.
All store bought food must be non-perishable. COOKING IN THE DORMS IS NOT ALLOWED.
