Welcome to the Team!

Congratulations on successfully completing all pre-employment requirements for your position! We are excited to have you join the Lake Powell Team! You will find all of the information below that you will need to arrive on your scheduled orientation date.

Feel free to contact Human Resources with any other questions you may have (928) 645-1084.

When is Orientation?

Orientation is held every Monday for both newly hired and rehired employees. You should have been scheduled for a specific orientation date by now. If you need to reschedule your first day of work/orientation, contact Human Resources as early as possible so that they can notify your department manager.

It is important for you to know that once you have been scheduled for orientation, your department is expecting you to start on that date. Any last minute changes to your arrival date may void your job offer as your department may need someone else to take your place.

If you haven't been told when to report for orientation or have any questions about your start date, contact Human Resources at the number above.

What should I bring to Orientation?

1) Federal Law requires all employees to provide positive documentation and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.  Upon arrival, employees must provide original documentation.  International students must have a visa allowing work in the U.S. and their passport. (For a complete list of acceptable documents see page 5 of the following link.

2) A signed Employment Details Letter. (if you haven't submitted it already)

3) A voided check to set up direct deposit.

What if I haven't completed my electronic Form I-9 before I arrive on property?

We realize that not all of our employees who are hired will have access to the internet, which may make it difficult for them to complete the electronic I-9 prior to their arrival on property. Computers will be available from 8:00am - 9:00am before orientation for those that need to complete the electronic Form I-9. We prefer that this form is completed before orientation starts. Directions on how to complete this requirement are included in your Employment Details Letter.

What will my first week of work look like?

Your first week of work will be a week of training. All candidates who are hired will start work on a Monday and go through orientation. Attending this orientation is a requirement of the job. Following orientation, each employee will go through a series of customer service, systems, and job specific training courses to ensure that each person feels comfortable performing their job.

Where can I live?

Wahweap Marina does have limited employee housing. Due to the limited nature of the housing, employees must be coming from more than 60 miles away in order to be eligible to live in it. Additionally, all pre-employment background screenings must come back clear before anyone can move into housing. Please check with Human Resources before your arrival to see if you are eligible to live in the employee housing.

We have a few different types of housing: Dorms are for all front line employees, Trailers are for our Seasonal Managers, Supervisors, Coordinators, and Leads based on availability. Please note that pets are not allowed in the dorms nor in all trailers. If you are planning on living in a trailer and have a pet that you want to bring with you to Wahweap, you must receive this approval prior to arriving on property.

Dangling Rope Marina employees will have housing provided. Rent is free at Dangling Rope. Pets are not allowed at Dangling Rope. Any questions regarding employee housing at Dangling Rope should be directed to the Dangling Rope hiring manager.

***Keep in mind that the Employee Housing Office hours are Mon - Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm. Employees who arrive on weekends or outside of regular business hours will be responsible for finding a place to stay until they can check into housing during regular business hours.***

If I'm going to be living in employee housing, when should I arrive?

If you have been approved to live in employee housing, you should arrive on the Friday before your orientation date. Please notify Human Resources if you will be arriving on any other day than the Friday before you are scheduled for orientation.

Employees who will be going to Dangling Rope after their training week will be provided with temporary housing at the Wahweap Marina. Talk to someone in the Wahweap Human Resources office for further details.

How do I pay my security deposit for housing?

The housing deposit is $125.00. This amount is due in the form of either Cash or Check prior to moving into housing.

The housing deposit for Dangling Rope employees is $150.00. This amount is deducted out of your first three paychecks. ($50.00 dollars per paycheck) At the end of the season, this deposit is refunded in full upon check-out as long as the unit has been taken care of. There is also a one time $35 dollar charge to help pay for maintenance and upkeep of the housing units. Rent is free at Dangling Rope.

Are there cooking facilities available to use?

The Wahweap Recreation Center does have a kitchen available for employees. It is equipped with basic cooking utensils. Please note that cooking in the dorms is strictly prohibited. The Dangling Rope employee housing is equipped with cooking facilities.

When I am not working, what is there to do?

You have the opportunity to create experiences in one of the world's most aesthetic and unique landscapes. The area offers a wide variety of activities: wakeboarding, water-skiing, hiking, camping, sight-seeing, photography, lazy days on the beach, renting a powerboat, going to other National Parks nearby, and much, much more!

There are also employee trips planned throughout the season. In 2010, these trips included the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion and Flagstaff and many other local trips. The employee recreation center has two TV areas, a Nintendo Wii, pool table, foos ball table, a fitness center, and movies to borrow.

At Dangling Rope, we have regular employee activities and cook outs. We also have premium Direct TV programming available for your entertainment needs. These amenities only cost $10.00 per paycheck.

My family/friends want to visit me while I'm there this summer. Are there any special discount programs for friends and family?

We offer special Friends and Family rates at Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas. Contact Human Resources for the current rates and deals. In addition, the Lake Powell Resort offers free boat tours to the friends and family of current employees. Contact our Boat Tours department for more details. (928 645 1125)

How will I get around property (if I don’t have a car)?

For employees working at the Wahweap Marina, we do have courtesy transportation that provides transportation around the property and to and from the town of Page. The shuttle operates on a regular schedule between Memorial Day and Labor Day. You will receive a more specific schedule when you arrive on property.

Dangling Rope is only accessible by boat, so don't plan on bringing your car, unless you plan on parking it at the Wahweap Employee Housing to use when you make a shopping trip. The employee housing at Dangling Rope is within walking distance of where you'll be working.

Where should I apply for a Social Security card?

From Page, the nearest Social Security Administration office is in Tuba City, AZ, about an hour away. There is also a Social Security Administration office located in Flagstaff, AZ. If you need information about getting to or contacting the Social Security office, you can go to: www.socialsecurity.gov (you will be asked to type in a zip code, use 86045 for Tuba City, or 86001 for Flagstaff).  The Social Security office hours are 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. It is important to note that the Tuba City office is located on the Navajo Indian Reservation and recognizes daylight savings time, so it is one hour ahead of the rest of Arizona.

How can someone get in touch with me?

For regular, every day communicating, you will need your own personal cell phone or computer. We do not have any payphones on property.

In the event you don't have a personal cell phone or computer and if your family would like to get a message to you, you can advise them to call Human Resources at 928 645 1084. You can also get a direct phone number from your department manager to give to family members in case of an emergency.

Can I have my paycheck direct deposited?

We strongly encourage employees to receive their pay checks via direct deposit.  There are numerous benefits to this.  You will have access to your paycheck funds more quickly and you won't have to go into town to deposit you money or cash your check.

Direct Deposit

If you do not currently have a checking account, we suggest you open one before you arrive.  Many banks offer free checking with a direct deposit option.  In order to set up direct deposit, you must provide a blank voided check or deposit slip to the Human Resources department (no exceptions).  Once you submit a direct deposit form, expect to continue receiving paper paychecks for an additional 2-3 pay periods. It normally takes 2-3 pay periods for direct deposit to go into effect. We will provide the direct deposit forms if you choose this option.

Are there ATM’s in the area?

There are ATM’s in the area. One is located in the gift shop at the Lake Powell Resort. All others are located in Page about 6 miles away.

Can I cash a personal check or a paycheck?

Page has two main banks, the Bank of the West and National Bank of Arizona. There are also several check cashing facilities in page including Wal-mart and a Wells Fargo ATM (across from Safeway).

Dangling Rope employees will be able to cash their paycheck in their department.

Where are the closest grocery and shopping areas?

Wahweap Marina is located 6 miles outside of the small town of Page AZ. There is a Super Wal-mart, a Safeway grocery store, a library, and a variety of restaurants in town. Flagstaff, Arizona and St George, Utah are the closest large shopping destinations, each located about 2 hours away.

Dangling Rope Marina is located approximately at mid-lake, half way between Wahweap and Bullfrog Marinas. The distance to any nearby city or grocery store is nearly 2 hours to Page, AZ which can only be reached via Waheap Marina by boat, followed by a 15 minute drive to the town itself. Since DR is a remote work location, our employees make regular trips to Wahweap, usually once every couple of weeks to stock up on groceries and other necessities.

Where do I eat?

Wahweap has an employee cafeteria that is open for lunch and dinner every day. The employee dining room hours are 11:00 am - 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm seven days a week.

***Limited hours of operation are subject to apply during the beginning and end of the season based on how many employees we have on-site***

The Employee Cafeteria only accepts cash or employee meal cards. You can purchase an employee meal card after your first day of work.

The only places to eat at Dangling Rope are your house, the Marina Store and the Snack Bar. All Dangling Rope housing units come with a fully equipped kitchen.

What are the standards of appearance/dress code?

Personal dress, appearance and cleanliness standards contribute to the morale of all employees and affect the business image Lake Powell presents to customers and visitors.

Employees are expected to dress in the appropriate, clean and pressed uniform and present a clean and neat appearance when they are on the job.

The following standards are to ensure our guests interact with employees who are clean, well groomed and dressed appropriately. Failure to arrive to orientation in accordance with these standards will void all job offers. You will receive an employee handbook on your first day of work which will outline this policy in more detail.

What type of uniform do I need?

The basic elements of your uniform will be provided. As each department's uniform differs, it is best to contact your department manager with specific questions you may have regarding the uniform. Please note the following:

·         You may be required to provide some of your uniform (i.e. Belt, Shoes, etc.)

·         The required uniform must be worn at all times on the job.

·         Open toed shoes and clogs are not acceptable.

·         Employees are required to keep uniforms clean and pressed.

·         Company uniforms, nametags, jackets and hats may NOT be worn off duty.

Please check with the Human Resources department at 928 645 1084 if you have any questions.

Who do I report to or contact if I have any questions?

Questions regarding the job should be directed to your department manager or the person who interviewed you. If you don't have their contact information, feel free to contact Human Resources at 928 645 1084 and we'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
