What is the best way to get to Wahweap Marina, Lake Powell ? 

Driving:

Make sure that you check in at Human Resources between 9am and 5pm Monday - Friday. Make sure you arrive and check into housing before 5pm on the Friday before your orientation date. For driving directions visit maps.google.com and as our location type Lake Powell Resort & Marina, 100 Lakeshore Drive , Page , AZ 86040 . Flying:

Either fly into Denver , CO or Phoenix , AZ. From here, you can fly directly into Page, AZ via Great Lakes Airlines. (www.flygreatlake.com)

 

 What should I bring?

 

You will be living and working in a hot and arid region - please pack to accommodate these conditions. It is advisable to bring clothes that will be comfortable during the hot summer months and to also be prepared for chilly nights and cooler fall temps. Wahweap requires you to bring your own bedding for a twin size bed and towels. Employees living in mobile homes need to furnish all cooking and other accessories. Basic furniture is provided. You are also encouraged to bring any personal items such as music, books, and special foods while keeping in mind that space is limited in a shared dorm room. See below for a list of things you should bring.

·         Enough money to get by until your first paycheck (usually within 3 weeks)

·         Twin sheets, pillows, blankets, hangers*

·         Toiletries (toothpaste, toilet paper. toothbrush, shampoo, deodorant, laundry detergent etc.)

·         Shorts, t-shirts

·         Sneakers, sandals, work-related shoes, hiking boots

·         Towels

·         Telephone calling card or cell phone

·         Sunscreen

·         Sunglasses

·         Hat

·         Social Security Card (for payroll purposes. original card only, no copies)

·         Driver License, Passport, or other state-issued ID

·         Extra socks

·         Long pants, jacket, rain poncho

·         Sleeping bag*

·         Paper and pens

·         Any medications you need to take

·         Hiker’s first aid kit*

·         Reading material (books, magazines)*

·         Laptop with wireless capability (if you have one)*

·         Mini Fridge (if you can’t bring one, you can buy one at the Walmart in Page, AZ)*

 

*It is not required to bring this item.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

 

Federal Law requires all employees to provide positive documentation and proof of eligibility to work in the United States .  Upon arrival, employees must provide original documentation, i.e. Social Security card, birth certificate, driver’s license, passport.  International students must have a visa allowing work in the U.S. and must have applied for a Social Security card prior to arriving in the Park.  No person will be employed, transported to the Park or housed without the required documentation.  If you arrive without your Social Security card, you must apply for a new card in Flagstaff , AZ or Tuba City , AZ before leaving for the Park.

 

Social Security cards are an ARAMARK payroll requirement.  Without this documentation, you will not be employed, transported to the Park or housed!

 

Should I bring my computer to Wahweap?

Many employees prefer to have their own computer while here in Wahweap, since we don’t have any computers available for browsing the internet. We do have wireless access only in our recreation center, it is not available in any of our housing units. ARAMARK Parks and Destinations-Lake Powell will not be held responsible for any lost items or damage to ANY personal affects.

 

Will I get cell service?

Wahweap does have cell phone reception. While reception can be spotty and cause dropped calls, there is cell phone coverage. Best reception will be achieved with Verizon. T-mobile and spint can be good at times. AT&T has really bad service and hardly works. So if you have an iPhone, don’t expect it to work well. Other cell phone companies will be in roaming.

 

 Will I be able to get mail while I am in Wahweap ?

It is your responsibility to check on the arrival of packages to our Human Resources office.  Human Resources will only accept mail for employees for TWO WEEKS after you have arrived.  After this date, the mail will be returned to sender if it is sent to Human Resources.

 

When I am not working, what is there to do?

You are here to create experiences in one of the world's most aesthetic and unique landscapes. So take your pick: wakeboard, water-ski, hike, camp, sight see, photography, lazy days on the beach, rent a powerboat, go to other National Parks, and much, much more!

There are a lot of employee trips planned throughout the season, in 2009 these trips included Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon , Zion and Flagstaff with lots of other local trips. The employee recreation center has two tv areas, a Nintendo Wii, pool table, foos ball table, and a fitness center. We also have movie nights, fitness classes, and sports equipment available.

7)   My family/friends want to come visit me in Wahweap this summer. Are there any special programs?
We offer a special Friends and Family rate of $50.00 per night at the Lake Powell Resort (www.lakepowell.com). In addition, the Lake Powell Resort also offers free boat tours to your friends and family. Call them for more details. 928 645 1125 or check out www.lakepowell.com website.

 

How will I get around property (if I don’t have a car)?

We do have courtesy transportation that provides transportation between some departments and to and from the town of Page . These shuttles will run May 15th – Sept 15th 2010.

 

Where will I be staying?

We do have employee housing available to those that are coming from far away.  This will be discussed on an individual basis. Please check with Human Resources before your arrival.

Where should I apply for a Social Security card?

In Page, AZ our nearest SSA office is Tuba City , AZ which is located on the Navajo Reservation or there is one located in Flagstaff , AZ. If you need information about getting to or contacting the Social Security office, you can go to: www.socialsecurity.gov (you will be asked to type in a zip code, use 86045 for Tuba City , or 86001 for Flagstaff ).  The Social Security office hours are 9 am – 4 pm. Please note that the Tuba City office is located on the Navajo Reservation and recognizes daylight savings time, so it is one hour ahead of Arizona .

 

12) How can someone get in touch with me?

You will need your own personal cell phone or computer. We do not have any payphones on property.

If your family would like to pass on any information you can advise them to call Human Resources on 928 645 1084. Please tell your family where you will be working, including the department and position.  Call them once you arrive in the Park so they do not have to worry about your safe arrival.

 

Can I get direct deposit?

We strongly encourage employees to receive their pay checks via direct deposit.  There are numerous benefits to this.  You get paid faster than receiving a paper check and you will not need to keep large amounts of cash on you or in your room (especially if you cash your paycheck).

 

Direct Deposit

If you do not currently have a checking account, open one before you leave for Wahweap or during your time.  Many banks offer free checking with a direct deposit option.  In order to set up direct deposit, you must provide a blank voided check or deposit slip to the Human Resources department (no exceptions).  It will normally take 3-4 pay periods before direct deposit will be activated. Direct deposit forms can be filled out during your orientation.

 

Are there ATM’s in the area?

There are ATM’s in the area so be sure to bring your card. One is located in the gift shop at the Lake Powell Resort. All others are located in Page.

 

Can I cash a personal check or a paycheck?

We have 2 main banks in Page, the Bank of the West and Arizona National. There are also several check cashing facilities in page including Walmart and a Wells Fargo ATM (across from SafeWay).

 

NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE CASHED AT ANY TIME!

 

How do I pay my security deposit for housing?

Housing deposits are $125.00 due in either Cash or Check at the time of move in.

 

Where are the closest grocery and shopping areas?

Wahweap is located 6 miles outside of the small town of Page AZ. There is a Super Walmart, one grocery store, a library, and a variety of restaurants in town. Flagstaff AZ and St George Utah are the closest large shopping destinations, each located 2.5-3 hours away.

  

Where do I eat?

Wahweap has an employee cafeteria that is open for 2 meals a day. Lunch from 11-2 and dinner is served from 5-7. Dinner and Lunch offer a daily special as well as off menu items and salad bar. *Limited hours of operation are subject to apply during the beginning and end of the season based on business needs.

The Employee Cafeteria only accepts cash or employee meal cards. Once you are an active employee and have complete orientation you can start purchasing employee meal cards.

 

 

What are the standards of appearance/dress code?

Dress, grooming and personal cleanliness standards contribute to the morale of all employees and affect the business image we present to our guests.  As a representative of Denali Park and Resorts, all employees must follow the grooming standards as a basic condition of employment.

 

Failure to arrive in accordance with these standards will void all job offers.

 

Employees are expected to dress in the appropriate clean and pressed uniform and present a clean and neat appearance.

 

Extreme hair styles and colors are not permitted.  Hair must be clean, combed and well groomed at all times, no non-natural styles or colors. Long hair must be tied back out of your face.  Beards may not exceed two inches in length and starting a beard or mustache during the season is not acceptable.

 

Jewelry worn on the job must be conservative, in good taste, appropriate to working attire and not conflict with job related safety standards.  Visible body piercing, with the exception of ears, is unacceptable.

 

What type of uniform do I need?

·         You may be required to provide some of your uniform.  Your department manager will contact you with specific items you will need to bring.

·         The required uniform must be worn at all times on the job in entirety.

·         Open toed shoes and clogs are not acceptable.

·         Employees are required to keep uniforms clean and pressed.

·         Company uniforms, nametags, jackets and hats may NOT be worn off duty.

Are there cooking facilities that I can use?

The Wahweap recreation center does have a small kitchen available for employees. It is equipped with cooking utensils and a small refrigerator. COOKING IN THE DORMS IS NOT ALLOWED!!

If you have been advised by your manager or Human Resources that  you will be living in a housing unit other than the dorms and have any questions, call us on 928.645.1084
